About

Heidi Son has practiced business immigration law for more than 12 years, as well as five years of labor and employment law experience. Given this unique blend of immigration and employment expertise, she specializes in employment-based immigration for individuals and corporations. She advises clients on non-immigrant, employment-based visas (H, L, E, O, P, TNs), labor certification processing (PERM), and permanent residence applications based on employment (EB-1A, EB-1B, EB-1C, and EB-2 NIWs), as well as compliance issues. She has extensive experience assisting entrepreneurs, start-up companies, and members of the arts, music, research and science communities with complex and difficult cases to obtain L-1, E, O visas, as well as green cards based on extraordinary ability in the arts (EB-1A), science and research (EB-1B), and multinational executives/managers (EB-1C).

Prior to starting Kodem Son Tang Law Group, Heidi served as the Head of Business Immigration at Murray Osorio, PLLC, where she oversaw all aspects of business immigration-related matters for publicly traded companies to startups in a broad range of industries. She was previously a partner at SW Law Group PC responsible for overseeing all legal case work, client and personnel management as well as staff training. In addition to her immigration experience, she also served five years as a Labor & Employment associate at the international law firm O’Melveny & Myers, responsible for assisting Fortune 500 companies with various labor and employment matters often featured in headline news.

Currently, in addition to the case work, Heidi volunteers as a guest speaker and moderator on immigration law, presenting seminars and information sessions for global mobility advisors, HR specialists, and universities, such as her alma mater, Duke University. In 2010, she also served as collaborator for a comparative labor & employment seminar at the Tokyo campus of Temple University Law School.

Why do I practice U.S. immigration law?

I practice immigration law because it allows me to assist in securing a benefit that can transform a client’s life. Having lived in various countries (Jordan, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea and Japan) as a foreign service spouse, I personally witnessed the challenges that foreign nationals face in their efforts to immigrate to the U.S. Helping to secure immigration benefits for various clients has been particularly rewarding especially in helping artists, performers, and entrepreneurs to navigate and secure O and P visas.
